CIRFA seminar (2 Feb): IcySea – An ice information app for navigation in polar regions
Jakob Belter, Drift+Noise
IcySea (icysea.app) is a map-based application designed to display and deliver ice-relevant information for operational purposes in both polar regions. It is addressed to national and local authorities, as well as commercial and non-commercial users. Among others, IcySea is being used on tourism, fisheries, research, cargo, offshore and surveying vessels. It combines high resolution satellite imagery (radar and optical) with sea ice concentration and drift data as well as navigational and planning tools in a user-friendly, all-in-one-place user interface. All data is available in near-realtime and with low-bandwidth connections (tested with Iridium connection).
Drift+Noise: Drift+Noise is a spin-off company of the Alfred Wegener Institute, Helmholtz Centre for Polar and Marine Research (AWI). Our group of software developers and researchers is committed to assisting stakeholders acting in polar waters with operational ice information from models and satellites, by leveraging technology from polar research, geophysics, and remote sensing.
